David Coleman

David Wayne Coleman, age 78, of Peru, IN. (formerly from Edinburgh) passed away peacefully and comfortably on July 27, 2026, at the Health and Living Community Care Center located in Nashville, IN.

David was born in Columbus, IN. on July 19, 1948. He was preceded in death by both parents, Tom and Louise (Hamilton) Coleman of Edinburgh (1997 and 2017 respectively).

Survivors include a daughter Lisa Coleman, sons David T. Coleman and Robert W. Coleman (Leslie G. Coleman), and Wanda, their mother who remained a trusted, lifelong friend of David, all from Columbus, IN.

David had 5 grandchildren (Sean, Emily, Payton, Derrick, Jairon, and Abi), and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers, a sister, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his very beloved sister, Judith Anne Louise Coleman Lackey, of Raleigh, NC. (2006).

David attended Edinburgh High School. In 1967 he entered the US Army and was a machine gun operator on a Chinook helicopter in Vietnam. David was employed for many years by Leer Corp. in Edinburgh and retired from there in 2012. He enjoyed NASCAR and attended several races with his sons. His favorite driver was No. 3, Dale Earnhardt (The Intimidator). He collected many items of Dale Earnhardt memorabilia over the years.

There was not a nurse, doctor, therapist, or aide that did not anticipate and enjoy their visits with David. He enjoyed everyone he came into contact with, and if you know David, he seemed to perk up and put himself on his best behavior when he knew he was going to be seeing and getting checked out by someone, especially the ladies. He never complained about going to all his appointments. Lol. Clerks and employees at the VA Facilities in Peru, Marion, Ft. Wayne, and Indianapolis, plus Ascension St. Vincent's Hospitals in Indianapolis and Kokomo, IN., always made sure they were scheduled to work and assist David on his visits. He always left them with a smile, a hug, and a little waltzing action to signify he was dancing with them. They all cried when he was being transferred to the Care facility in Nashville. We will all miss him terribly.

David was a member of Who So Ever Will Community Church and a 50+ year member of the American Legion Post 233.

Funeral services will be held at Who So Ever Will Community Church, 623 S Eisenhower Dr, Edinburgh, IN. 46124. on Saturday, August 1st, 2026.

Viewing/Visitation will be from 11am-1pm. The funeral service will be at 1pm, conducted by Pastor Randy Denton with burial and Military Rites to follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, IN
