Douglas A. Winn

Douglas A. Winn, 73, of Edinburgh, Indiana, passed away on June 10, 2026, at IU-Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 28, 1952, at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, Franklin, IN, the son of Kenneth A. Winn and Naomi Ruth (Wright) Winn.

A lifelong resident of Jackson Township in Shelby County, Doug grew up on the family farm and remained deeply connected to the land, his community, and the people who called it home. He graduated from Southwestern High School, Shelby County in 1970 and later earned a certificate in Automotive Technology from Lincoln Technical in 1971.

He began working on farm equipment at Barnett Sales and Service in Flat Rock before continuing his automotive career at Dave Burt Oldsmobile (formerly Wilson Olds) in Columbus. He spent the final 22 years of his career at Poynter Chevrolet, Buick, GM in Seymour, retiring in 2021. In retirement, Doug enjoyed spending the winter in the warmth and sunshine of Green Valley, AZ.

Farming remained one of Doug's greatest passions throughout his life. He and his sister owned and operated Winn Family Farm, LLC, in Jackson Township, with the land having been in his family since the 1800s.

Doug was committed to preserving local history and spent the last seven years helping restore Roberts Chapel Cemetery in Jackson Township, Shelby County, honoring the rich pioneer history of Indiana. He was equally dedicated to education and future generations through his service on the Southwestern High School Alumni Board where he established Winn Family Farm Agriculture Scholarship

One of Doug's proudest accomplishments was his commitment to recovery. As one of the founding members of Alcoholics Anonymous in Nineveh, he inspired countless others through his example and service. He would have celebrated 42 years of sobriety June 26th.

Doug was an active Freemason who was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in 2010. He served as Past Master of Waldron Lodge No. 217 and was a member of Farmers Lodge No. 147, Naamah Chapter No. 73, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, where he attained the 32nd Degree. He was also a faithful member of Mt. Auburn Christian Church.

Doug will be remembered for his steadfast character, generous spirit, love of farming, devotion to family, and commitment to serving his community. Whether through preserving local history, supporting future generations, or helping others along their recovery journey, he quietly made a difference in the lives of many. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the traditions he worked so hard to preserve.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth A. Winn and Naomi Ruth (Wright) Winn.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne (McCoy) Winn, whom he married on November 22, 2015; his sister, Cindy (Tim) Allen-Stuckey of Columbus, Indiana; his nephew, Brandon (Heather) Allen of Edinburgh, Indiana; his stepson, Michael (Sarah) Gregg of Harvey, North Dakota; his stepdaughter, Christi (Kyle) Cottongim of Palm Bay, Florida; and his step-grandchildren, Amelia Gregg, Rosalee Gregg, Knox Cottongim, and Emerson Cottongim.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM by Pastor Patrick Glasser on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Mt. Auburn Christian Church in Mt. Auburn, Indiana. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until time of service. There will be a Masonic Graveside Service. Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Mt. Auburn, Indiana. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be given to Southwestern High School Alumni Association, 3400 W. 600 S. Shelbyville, IN 46176, in Doug's memory.
