Gary Edwin Dowell

Gary Edwin Dowell, 72 passed away August 31, 2025 at Compass Park in Franklin, Indiana. He was born August 23, 1953 in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was the son of Ferril Edwin Dowell and Mary Ethel (Tabor) Steward.

Gary is survived by his children Lisa (Waymon) French of Columbus, Indiana, Melody (Shawna) Dowell of Columbus, Indiana, Mandy (Kevin) Burton of Franklin, Indiana, Scott Dowell of Columbus, Indiana, Rachael (John Michael) Burton of Illinois, Heather (Stephanie) Dowell of Columbus, Indiana, and sister, Madonna (Kenny) Price of Edinburgh, Indiana 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Homer Steward, and grandchildren Brenson Burton and Loreal Coleman.

Gary served in the US Air Force as a MP and later transferred to the US Army reserves.  He received an Associate of Applied Science in HVAC. He worked for Peters Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Columbus Housing Authority and retired from Dial One in Columbus. He was also a reserve police officer for the Edinburgh Police Department.

He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Edinburgh, Moose Lodge in North Vernon, and the American Legion in Columbus. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, working on vehicles, and spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 pm by Pastor Tim Woodring on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Faith Baptist Church in Edinburgh, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, Indiana.
