Mary Hazelwood Bannister

Mary Hazelwood Bannister, 83 of Columbus, Indiana (formerly Edinburgh, Indiana) passed away at AdventHealth Waterman in Lake County, Florida on September 29, 2023. She was born August 22, 1940, in Edinburgh, Indiana. She was the daughter of Joseph D. and Bertha (Cook) Grindstaff. She is survived by her sons, Alvin (Jenny) Hazelwood of Edinburgh, Indiana, Allen Wayne Hazelwood of Eustis, Florida, Lloyd T. Hazelwood of Columbus, Indiana, and Larry (Debbie) Bannister of North Vernon, Indiana, daughters Teresa Steinstra (Randy) of Umatilla, Florida, Charlotte (Gene) Seymour of Brunswick, Georgia, Stephanie (Wayne) Melton of Shelbyville, Indiana, Patty Montgomery of Tucson, Arizona, and Pam Bannister of Tucson, Arizona, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Bannister, the late Earl Hazelwood, son Ronald Hazelwood, granddaughter, Stacy Toler, and brother, Joseph "Jody" Grindstaff.

Mary was a member of Columbus Baptist Church in Columbus, Indiana. She retired after 35 years as a crossing guard for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. Mary loved taking care of her children and family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning, quilting, and sewing.

A visitation will be held at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh, Indiana on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 12:30-2:00PM. A funeral service will follow the visitation and will be conducted by Pastor Chuck Kennedy at 2:00PM at the same location. Calling will be from 12:30PM until time of service. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum in Columbus, Indiana.
