Matthew Leslie Vandercook

Matthew "Matt" Leslie Vandercook, 56, of Edinburgh, Indiana passed away May 28, 2026, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born August 18, 1969, in Adrian, Michigan, and is the son of Leslie Allen and Rosemary (Rains) Vandercook.

Matt is survived by his father, Leslie Vandercook of Temperance, Michigan, brother, Phillip (Linda) Vandercook of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, and his dog, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Matt served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. He retired after 36 years of service and held the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. Matt was a member of the Edinburgh American Legion Post 233, Ann Arbor VFW Post 423 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Special Forces Association Chapter 500. Matt was involved within the community and would spend his time helping his family, friends and other veterans. He enjoyed kayaking down the Big Blue River with his friends.

A military funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 20,2026, at the Edinburgh American Legion Post 233, 500 Memorial Dr. Edinburgh, Indiana 46124. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm until time of service. A Celebration of Life will follow the service until 5:00pm at the legion. Burial will be in Glendon, North Carolina.  In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorial contributions be given to Humane Society of Johnson County, 3827 N. Graham Rd. Franklin, Indiana 46131 or www.hsjc.org  in memory of Matt.
