Patricia Lucille Kyle

Patricia Lucille Ferguson Kyle, 91, passed away September 26, 2026. She was known for her warmth, unwavering optimism, and the boundless energy she brought to helping others as a mother and grandmother, friend, and volunteer at her church.

Mrs. Kyle was a member of Old Union United Church of Christ, where she became the first woman deacon in 1991. She was also a member of the Flower Lane Garden Club and participated in Bible Study Fellowship for many years.

She was born June 23, 1935, to Everett and Lucille Roeder Ferguson, on the farm of her beloved maternal grandparents, near Vevay, in Switzerland County. After World War II, she moved often with her parents, including to Michigan, South Dakota, and England. She returned to southern Indiana to visit her grandparents during summers. She was baptized in the Ohio River, and she lived out her faith.

Mrs. Kyle moved alone to Columbus as a young woman, where she worked for a time as a Bell telephone operator and met Allen D. Kyle. They married on June 14, 1958, and had four children–Barbara, Diane, Katherine, and Mike. She loved Allen’s nine siblings and in-laws as if they were her own. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death in 2010, and she mourned his loss deeply.

Together with her husband and children, Mrs. Kyle farmed the Kyle family farm, raising Polled Herefords, crops, and a bountiful vegetable and flower garden. She was an animal lover and provided a home to many dogs and cats. She cooked and baked for every holiday and family gathering and canned produce prodigiously. She and her husband enjoyed playing cards multiple times each week with their card club. She had an appreciation for all things beautiful–bouquets, lace curtains, Indiana glass, and her china cabinet.

Throughout her life, she nurtured and cared for many people who needed or benefited from her deep love and the strength of her spirit. She was tremendously proud of the unique accomplishments of each of her children and grandchildren. Though she would not have taken the credit, she contributed to each of them. She cared for her own mother as she suffered from Alzheimer’s. She was as close as family to her longtime neighbors, Hazel and Aylette Groves, who had been predeceased by their only daughter, and she faithfully cared for them during their final years.

No hardship diminished her feeling that she had been blessed in her life, and she in turn was a blessing to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister, and many of her brothers- and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her children, Barbara Kyle of Edinburgh, Diane (Barry) Ellery of Virginia, Katherine (Mark) Wallace of Ogilville, and Mike (Sandy) Kyle of Edinburgh; grandchildren Nicholas Wallace, Olivia Ellery, Christopher (Debby Villalta) Wallace, Jacob (Cristyl) Ellery, Adam Wallace, and Daniel Kyle; and great-granddaughter Inez Villalta-Wallace.

The funeral will be Tuesday, September 29th at 1:00 PM at Eskew Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh, with the Rev. Doug Wallace officiating. Friends and family may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Old Union Cemetery.
