Shirley Johnson

Shirley Johnson, 87 of Columbus, Indiana passed away December 27, 2024 at Miller's Merry Manor in Hope, Indiana. He was born April 27, 1937 in Casey County, Kentucky. He was the son of Millard and Bettie (Allen) Johnson.  He married Laura Imogene (Burton) Johnson on October 28, 1963 and she preceded him in death on December 12, 2011.

He is survived by his sons, Mark (Leah) Johnson of Columbus, Indiana and Stephen Johnson of Franklin, Indiana, grandchildren, Jennifer McDowell, Jamie Johnson, Chasity Gossett, Laura Johnson, and Stephanie Gossett, and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Oval Johnson, Uril Johnson, Omer Johnson, Wilbert Johnson, Lucian Johnson, Willis Johnson, and Vitis Johnson, and sisters, Pauline Adams, Ruby Curry, Margie Burton, Imogene McGaha, and Mary Burton.

Shirley retired from Amos Hill after 30 plus years. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, hunting squirrels, rabbits, and mushrooms, playing Rook, pitching horseshoes, telling stories to make people laugh, and attending church.

A funeral service will be conducted by Reverend Ricky Hogue at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh, Indiana. Calling will be from 10:00 AM until time of service at noon. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana.
