Tonda L Schaefer

Tonda l. Schaefer, 64, of Columbus, Indiana passed away August 12. 2026 at her residence.  She was born on December 27, 1961, in Columbus, Indiana is the daughter of Wallace "Wally" and Joanne (Trinkle) Wingler of Columbus, Indiana.

Tonda is survived by her brother Todd Willis (Amy) Wingler of Avon and sister Tamara J Broady of Columbus, and nephews Parker Broady and Connor Wingler and her niece, Kayla Wingler.

Tonda graduated from Columbus East High School in 1980 and then from the Academy of Hair Design in 1981.  After graduation, she went to work with her dad at Esquire Hair Design where she spent the next 45 years.

Tonda had an incredible work ethic, and she enjoyed each and everyone of her clients.  Tonda had a great sense of humor:  It was clever, sometimes dry and sarcastic but was unmistakably hers.  She always said what others wouldn't say aloud, although biding, it was always spot on and hilarious.

For all of her joking and fooling around (shocking pens, lighters and books included) what some may not have realized is she had a compassionate and sensitive side.  She never met a stranger and wanted to help anyone in need: from working in their yard to walking their dog.

The many people who showed up on her doorstep these last few weeks is a testament to the many friendships she has cultivated over a lifetime.

The world will never be the same without her.  She will be missed.

Pastor Nelson Lee and Ed Reuter will be officiating a Celebration of Life Service at 12:00 on August 19, 2026 at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana.
